REPUBLIC DAY!!

A celebration is coming around
Everywhere waving flags to be found
A sense of pride grips the nation
The day of our constitutions creation

The day our rights and duties were stated
As 26th January it was dated
An effective voice for India to speak
Standing up for the strong and the weak

For this we endured a lot of pain
Only for freedom and power to gain
We secured unity through the fight
And won the freedom with our might

It aims to promote fraternity
And keep peace for all of eternity
Faith hope and religion it reserves
And gives the people the justice they deserve

The Indian flag is hoisted above
For our country we show our love
A sense of pride grips the nation
The day of our constitutions creation

THE INDIA OF MY DREAMS

The flashing lights, the big cities
Cricket being played all around
Different kinds of people everywhere
Every type of religion can be found

The amazing monuments we see
The cultural heritage sights
The numerous amount of sunset points
And the quiet peaceful night

The number of roads just for shopping
The roadside pani-puri
And ice golas, and other chaats
So spicy they fill your mouth with fury

The red fort, where we hoist the flag
The Taj Mahal made of marble so white,
And so many beautiful temples,
They'll be forever embedded in your sight.

But these are just the common things
Between real life and the India of my dreams
It's easy to love your country
But to criticize it, it's harder than it seems

There are just a few things that I would change
The India of my dreams would be clean
I would walk on the road without holding my nose
And The India of my dreams would be green

The India of my dreams would be a safe place
Where I could walk on the road in the night
Where we wouldn't use the A/C at all
And drivers wouldn't stop just to fight.

The India of my dreams wouldn't just have the rules
And not follow them all day
The India of my dreams wouldn't judge me
If I went to the church, mosque, and temple to pray

The India of my dreams would have no poor
And wouldn't flourish on money and credit
But would have the power of helping people
And we would flourish on merit

The India of my dreams would say
That no man is greater than me
And the India of my dreams is innocent
And hence it is corruption free

But this India of my dreams is not real
It exists only in my dreams
And to make this dream come true
It's harder than it seems

But what then, are we here for
It's to make this dream a reality
We will start from the smallest area
And spread it to every city

The India of my dreams, will soon come alive
And I know that we will all give our best
To make our country, and all of us too
Better than the rest.

THE HEAVENLY BODIES

I'd like to tell you the story
Of the moon, stars and the sun
A story which not a lot of people know,
And that's why it's a special one.

We all have have exclaimed once in life
Oh the mighty sun, it shine so bright
But isn't it a different story
When we see the moon in the night?

The sun is our main source of light
We pray to it, like it is a god
But does that make the stars and the moon
Any more likely to be a fraud?

Well you might like it in the day
With all the heat and light
But let me tell you about the sacrifices made
By the moon to light up the night

The sun so mighty yet so humble
Rises above us all like royalty
And then descends to show us
The moons shyness and loyalty

The stars, they shine like balls of light
Just a dot compared to the moon
Hoping that they become a sun
And rule our skies soon

But what you don't know is the love
Shared between these bodies in the sky
A one so strong and powerful
We could never get there if we try

It's a beautiful love story, this one
Because they enlighten our eyes
Because all the time the most beautiful thing
Is above us, those amazing skies

And like this...light shone
Through the walls of heaven, bright
And the skies continue to rule our land
Be it day or night

TO THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD

My dads birthday was on 14th of January. I wrote this poem for him which literally brought him tears of joy and let me tell you...it was one of the best moments of my life. The first time I had seen my dad cry and it brought tears to my eyes too...it's a memory and an experience I will never forget! Here's to all the dads that daughters look up to with absolute admiration and nothing else! I love you dad!

Oh! I'll tell you about my dad
The smartly dressed one
Upfront he may seem serious
But he loves to have a bit of fun!

Today is his actual birthday (jan 14th)
But according to him it's on February 29th
So that means he gets two this year
Am I not right??!!

He will nickname everyone around
He is always ready for a laugh
And because of his jolly attitude
He's famous among his staff

But this isn't even half
Of this mans HUGE heart
Whom I will love forever
Because of me, he is a part

Dad...you are so many things!!

In the dark you are my light
You are my moon in the night
You are the eyes for my sight
And you taught me how to fight

You are my inspiration
And you are always there
To pick me up when I fall
And that's how I know you care

A do no matter how many words I know on earth...
No amount can help describe what you are worth.

TRIBUTE TO SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

Ok so it was Swami Vivekanandas birthday so I wrote this poem on his ideals and his message to the youth. This man...contributed loads to India's development with his ideas of how our country should be. He truly inspired me...

Born a normal child like us
But with a dream and a vision
For whose success he worked hard
With his might and dedication

A mind so calm and generous
Filled with nothing but love
He was an inspiration as to how we should be
Truly an idol from above

He stressed on different aspects
Of youth, faith and religion
And also stressed on the fact that
We can't let religion cause division

We have a saying that goes
Practice what you preach
And he did exactly that
Spreading his knowledge to each

He would talk about equality
He would unite the east and the west
And say that no matter how many options
Being yourself is always the best

He would say that to build character
Gentleness should co-exist with strength
And that your dreams and beliefs
Describe you to no length

He always believed that the future
Of our country lied with the young
And we will stive to do exactly that
For now, we are heroes unsung

And on this day we honor him
The man who inspired and taught
And he deserves all the appreciation
For the progress that he brought

THOSE WHO INSPIRE

The happiest people
Have cried the most tears
The bravest people
Have fought off the most fears

The most beautiful smile
Has fought off many frowns
And the most successful people
Have faced the most ups and downs

The friendliest people
Have always been left behind
And the most caring people
Have not been treated kind

Those who aren't scared anymore
Fought the dark with the light
And those who have wounds and scars
Worked hard to win their fight

What's common among these
Is that when the paths have been rough
They've fallen and been pushed down
But they stood up more tough

THE KING OF THE JUNGLE

"I'll be back by nine"
To mom I yelled
However, I lost track of time
And on and on I dwelled

Until something big
Something long and something scary
With a touch of life in it
Was it a pixie or a fairy?

I took a step closer
And walked right into a tree
"This is a forest" I thought
I was as scared a I could be

However there was a door
That I opened, my heart filled with fright
And I walked in, feeling around
There wasn't an ounce of light

And then I realized
That I was in a huge room
With absolutely nothing to protect me
Around me was a sense of doom

And then all of a sudden
Two yellow gleaming eyes
Caught my attention
Watching me like I was it's prize

And then something strange happened
In my pocket I felt a weight
And I found a matchbox there
I lit the matchstick feeling great

My heart was beating faster
It felt like it was in my mouth
There was an animal in front of me
Of that, there was no doubt

I held the matchstick in front of me
And my mouth opened wide
For in front of me was an animal
I could best describe with it's pride

A thick golden mane and the same color fur
White sharp teeth ready to bite
I felt like my end was near
I was in no way prepared for a fight

I woke up with a gasp
I had fallen asleep on the couch
The TV was still on the channel I was watching
And on the table were my books and pouch

Just then the movie ended
"The lion king" it seems
I learned to never watch a movie
And then fall asleep and dream

LIFE OF A BUBBLE

It comes from a bottle
Filled with liquid soap
Blown away by children
Filled with hope

They hope it lives long
They hope it is strong
But sometimes they're right
And the other times they're wrong

If you've still not figured out...
A bubble is what I'm talking about !

It lives a life of thrills
Never once plans it's day
Instead it waits for the wind
And then gets carried away

It's pleasure to look at, you know?
It's so small and fragile
Yet it floats around like it's king
And lasts quite a while !

It brings us so much joy
Sometimes we make it go "pop"
Other times it reaches many a height
And then descends to a drop

And many a time the bubble dies
Before it even got anywhere
And we feel just a little pain
But after that we won't care

Because out comes another bubble
And with the same joy and hope
We pray that this one lives longer
Even though it's just made of soap

And so the bubbles lives go on
Sometimes it's eventful and fun
But sometimes it ends like a full stop
But about that nothing can be done !
