BUTTERFLIES FLY AWAY

MERGING WITH THE SHADOWS

She stands in a short dress
The eyeliner smudged from her tears
She has a glass in hand, and stands in the dark
Along with her lingering fears

She has zoned out from her physical self
There are too many problems in her head
And she knew she had made a wrong decision
And now all she wanted was a bed

A bed so she could cry herself to sleep
In the stupid cheap dress she had bought
So that she could face the conflict in her head
A battle that she hardly fought

Her life was so much simpler than this
It was like a scoop of ice cream
She knew at some point, it would get done
But she didn't want to snap out of the dream

And then the worst had happened
She entered the real world
And it was only then she realized
That she was just a girl

She was a girl in shoes too big for her
And it was taking forever to grow into it
And every time she walked, she fell down
Because the shoes still wouldn't fit

She was judged by eyes she couldn't see
She was loved by those who weren't around
When she needed a shoulder to lean on
They were nowhere to be found

She drank her heart out
That's how she numbed her pain
And she caged her heart
So she wouldn't feel it again

And now here she stands in the darkness
Searching for just a little light
Hoping that someone would lend her a hand
And make her want to fight this fight

But till then, she'll remain where she is
She's a shadow in the dark
Searching fervently for herself
She is yet to make her mark
