THE DOOR TO THE SOUL

Do you ever feel like you're losing a person?
Do you see it in the way they smile?
And notice it through the way
They haven't laughed in a while?

Well you never actually want to lose them
But you feel like you can't see them that way
And that their sadness is defined
Each and every single day

When it comes to a disease or ailment
Some people tend to lose hope
All this while they were clutching on
But they lost grip of the rope

And however long you hold them above the cliff
It's up to them to climb up or not
But either way you're happy for them
Because it was a battle well fought

But if you ever need some solace
That they are still in there
That you're not just doing this
For a person who doesn't care

Look in to their eyes
Tell me you can see a spark
That twinkles when they smile
And lights up to push out the dark

Well, that's the door to their soul
Their last sign of being alive
The sign that in life they were happy
And some time ago they had thrived

The eyes...they speak for the soul
When they're happy they shine bright
But when they're giving up hope
They become dark like the night

So don't let that happen
Make those around you laugh and smile
And trust me, if they see your hope
Theirs too will grow a mile
