I packed my things
I wore my favorite coat
I couldn't say a thing
There was a lump in my throat
My bag, or bags, I should say
Waited by the door outside
And my cheeks were tear stained
Like I had just cried
My parents, my family
They were there, holding it back
I knew it would just take one word
For them, too, to crack
You see, I was going away
I had no choice to be honest
I had to take this decision
I had to do what was best
I would soon say goodbye
The hugs would remain in my heart
And the day would be remembered
As they day we did part
There would be crying, there would be tears
Words of advice, words of concern
They would tell me they love me and believe in me
And with this my fire would burn
I was soon to be a traveller
I would roam the streets of the world
All on my own
I was just a small girl
I would ask the help of strangers
Stay in rooms that were cheap
Trust in myself to do best
And in faith, take a leap
There would be those late night phone calls
Because of the difference in time
And I would work different jobs
To earn every possible dime
My passport, the most interesting book
Each page was a new journey
Each place, a unique experience
creating the best memories
And those who didn't travel
Just one page they read
And this is the most true thing
That anyone has ever said
And you live on to tell your story
Those memories that swim in your head
About how the world was a book
And about all the pages you read
You will cry sometimes, but smile a lot more
And to live your life, people will try
And then you know it's worth it
To just let go and say good bye
I wore my favorite coat
I couldn't say a thing
There was a lump in my throat
My bag, or bags, I should say
Waited by the door outside
And my cheeks were tear stained
Like I had just cried
