THE LOST MAGIC

She stood at the corner of the street
She seemed to attract my feet
I found myself walking to her table
She seemed...unstable

I went and dropped a coin in her hat
And in front of her I sat
She pulled flowers from her sleeve
It was so normal, I was about to leave

But then she gave me this mischievous smile
And it wasn't even a while
Before I saw all black
My mind was losing track

And suddenly the hat was on my head
And I was in my room on my bed
And she gave her magic wand a flick
And there ended her magic trick

In a seconds flash I was back on the street
As though I hadn't witnessed this magical treat
But something about her made me want to stay
Not just at that moment, but every day

Then I realized,
She was a witch, broken,

It's like her magic had begun to fade
It's sad, because not many people know this trade
To make people believe by making them see
To lock the cage, but still let the bird free

She'd make flames rise from the ash
Among black and white a colorful splash
If you saw the world through her eyes
Everything would seem like a prize

Not just silver, not just gold
But all things, young and old
All things that seem out of this world
From her very hand are unfurled

And in that moment, I was so spellbound
I asked her the only question I found
I asked her what she loved and feared
She said "magic darling, magic" and disappeared
