As a small girl
I sat, feet together, Hair tied
Looking neat as ever.
I played, but gently. It was easy being a girl then.
And now when I look upon those easy times
Tears fill my eyes
As a part of my heart and hope dies
For I am that inferior, Looked down upon
Frail image in the mirror,
Whom everyone is free to judge
Whom people put to death
Taking a life's last breath
Because their baby is a girl
And what of my existence if
My sole purpose in life is to please the other gender?
But....Just what if I don't do that?
What if I tell you that I am the giver of birth
The one from which blessings of this earth come to life
The one who helps make this a place worth living in
What if I stand up and say
To all of society that expects something of me everyday
I say NO
I say you can't create my image for me
You can't prevent me from being free
I have my own wings
And I think it's time I fly
To a place up there in the sky
Where I have FREEDOM
A place that's proud to have me.
A place I can call home.
Girls, you are diamonds in today's skies
Just let yourself sparkle as bright as you can
I sat, feet together, Hair tied
Looking neat as ever.
I played, but gently. It was easy being a girl then.
And now when I look upon those easy times
Tears fill my eyes
As a part of my heart and hope dies
