THE INDIAN GIRL

Caught in the stares of a thousand men
She adjusted her top
To hide her dark circles from sleepless nights
She covered her beauty in make up
Hearing nothing but whistles while she walked in the night
She walked her fastest with nothing but street lights
And while her friends were only one call away
This is how she felt everyday

This is the sad story of the girls of India today
There's not much we can say!
For we have fought,
For our rights and freedom
But it was never given to us
And now we pay the price.

From an age so young we are taught to feel fear
And it only gets worse year by year
We are taught to go out only in broad daylight
And not venture out in the night

We are told to "dress appropriately"
Wear something that covers your knee
Wear a shirt that covers your full arm
Just to stay away from harm?

But what happened to curbing the ideas of men?
Why Are they allowed so walk free?
Why isn't society,
Telling them who they're supposed to be?

Why can't we point and laugh and stare
Treat them unfair
And make then feel insecure,
Question the existence of their future.

But no, we are not taught to be like that
Instead we hide behind a veil
Almost worse than jail
We let ourselves be ruled by a male
